Overview & Requirements

This is an 8-hour EMDRIA-approved, webinar course, created and taught byย Amanda Martin, PhD, LMFT-S, LPC, Eagala Mental Health Professional, and features Daisy and other Equine Partners. This course is filled with an easy instructional guide including demonstrations, sample forms, and practical strategies for in-session exercises and client homework exercises.

This is an on-demand, asynchronous workshop. You may work at your own pace.

This workshop is intended for EMDR Trained therapists or Equine Specialists who partner with an EMDR Trained Therapist in the provision of Equine Assisted Therapy.

NBCC Credit Hours: 8 hours
EMDRIA Credits: 8 hours
ASWB General Continuing Education Credits: 7.5 hours (pending)

(EMDRIA credits count only for those who have completed their EMDRIA-approved EMDR training before the start date of the workshop.)

Completion of the course requires watching videos in all modules, completing a training evaluation. And completing a knowledge based post-test with a minimum score of 80%. You will have three attempts for the post-test. Once these steps are completed your certificate will be both emailed to you and available through the online training portal.

This training provides an overview of research on EMDR and Equine-Assisted therapy. The training reviews elements of equine-assisted therapy as it applies to the 8 phases of EMDR therapy.
There are video demonstrations of Safe Place, the EMDR standard protocol, and the Future template incorporating an equine partner. The observations of videos provide an opportunity for attendees to apply knowledge on tracking changes in the session and assessing the horseโ€™s response.
Amanda Martin is a Certified Eagala Mental Health Professional and the training incorporates a team approach, all ground-based interactions, and follows the Eagala 4 key factors. All licensed providers are required to follow their state laws, regulations, and code of ethics.

Course Objectives

Objectives:

  1. Identify research on EMDR therapy and equine-assisted interventions
  2. Explain the team treatment approach of psychotherapy equine-assisted
  3. Summarize the AIP Model and Stages of Change Model
  4. Describe EMDR treatment phases to psychotherapy equine-assisted interventions
  5. Demonstrate EMDR equine-assisted services with demonstration videos of the standard EMDR protocol using the three-pronged approach.

Amanda Martin holds a PhD in Family Therapy and is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant. With over 14 years of experience, she specializes in trauma therapy for individuals and families in residential and outpatient settings. Amanda also provides supervision for EMDR certification, EMDR consultants-in-training, and LMFT-Associates. Her mission is to help people find a healthy, joyful, and fulfilling path in life. Dr. Jose Carbajal, a U.S. Army veteran, earned his bachelorโ€™s and masterโ€™s degrees in social work and a masterโ€™s in theological studies from Baylor University, and a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. With over 15 years of clinical experience and extensive teaching experience, Jose specializes in trauma, sexual abuse recovery, domestic violence, and substance abuse. His research focuses on trauma interventions, neuroscience, and faith. He is EMDR Certified, an Approved Consultant, and an EMDRIA Approved Trainer, with numerous publications and professional presentations to his name.

Amber holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Texas and Oklahoma and holds Supervisor credential for Texas. Amber is an EMDRIA consultant and trainer. She has over a decade of experience in the trauma field in work with uniformed services, domestic violence, childhood trauma and abuse, and recent mass trauma events. Amber provides consultation for EMDRIA certification, for consultants-in-training, and supervision for LPC-Associates. Amber continues to research the benefits of EMDR therapy with a variety of populations. Her goal is to help build strong clinicians who are well versed in trauma interventions to better support their clients. Amber sees a limited number of clients with a focus on trauma work, she is also a Certified Career Counselor and Certified through EAGALA to provide equine-assisted therapy.ย
