But instead, something quieter stepped in. A clear sense of the next step. Call another clinic. Follow the thread.
It wasn’t ‘me’ pushing—it was simply what was there to do.
In nondual teachings, ‘as it is’ is more than a phrase—it’s a pointer. It doesn’t mean shrugging and doing nothing. It means seeing reality clearly, without the extra layer of “this shouldn’t be happening,” and moving from that clarity.
When we think we’re the ‘doer,’ action tends to come with tension—gripping, forcing, defending. But when the ‘I’ drops out, action can arise cleanly. Consciousness moves through us, is not something we have to manufacture, drive, or own.
Sometimes action is what’s required. Not to change what is, but to be with it fully. That might mean making a phone call, having a conversation, or setting a boundary.
I remember a therapist who rented my office once stayed long past the agreed time. Accepting the situation didn’t mean I smiled and waited until he felt like leaving. Acceptance meant being fully with the fact that this was happening—and from there, handing him the plan to wrap it up.
That’s the paradox: acceptance isn’t always comfortable. It doesn’t necessarily mean taking action to change what feels unwanted. But when action arises from Presence instead of reactivity, it carries a different quality—lighter, cleaner, without the residue of ‘me’ trying to fix the world.
As I like to say, it’s not about what is wanted or needed, but what is required.
