This ethics webinar is designed for mental health practitioners at all levels of experience and practice settings. Potential ethical issues that might arise in each EMDR therapy phase will be identified. Professional and legal implications will be addressed for practicing EMDR therapy.

Learning Objectives and Content

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe and distinguish how ethics apply to the eight phases of EMDR therapy.
  2. Recognize how to resolve professional and legal ethical issues in EMDR therapy.
  3. Summarize strategies presented during lecture and integrate content to EMDR therapy practice.
Dr. Jose Carbajal attended Baylor University after his tenure in the U.S. Army, where he received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social work, and a master’s degree in theological studies. He completed his Ph.D. in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. Jose has several publications and he has conducted many professional presentations and trainings. Jose’s research focus is on the interventions clinicians use to treat trauma, neuroscience, and faith. Dr. Carbajal is EMDR Certified, an Approved Consultant, an EMDRIA Approved Trainer in EMDR, and a CompassionWorks Lead Trainer.Jordan Shafer, MS, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor doing EMDR based trauma therapy for over 15 years in Plano, TX. He works with adults and older teens with histories of complex trauma and PTSD. He was in the last class of therapists trained by Francine Shapiro, in 2005. He is EMDR Certified, an Approved Consultant in EMDR and an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Trainer.

Continuing Education
