Your Supervisee is EMDR-Trained. You Don’t Have to Be.Â
Learn how to confidently and ethically supervise EMDR-trained clinicians without stepping outside your scope of competence. This practical training helps supervisors distinguish clinical supervision from EMDR consultation, strengthen trauma-informed case conceptualization, support reflective practice, address client safety and stabilization, and establish clear professional boundaries.
Gain a collaborative framework for fostering clinical growth while ensuring modality-specific questions receive the answers they require.
Support the clinician. Protect the client. Feel more confident in your role.Â
Clinical supervisors may oversee EMDR-trained clinicians without having completed EMDR training themselves. In this training Drs. Carbajal and Martin  clarify how supervisors can provide ethical, trauma-informed, and growth-oriented oversight while remaining within their competence and avoiding modality-specific instruction. Participants examine the distinct functions of clinical supervision and EMDR consultation, including when collaboration with an EMDR consultant is indicated. The course emphasizes a collaborative supervisory relationship, reflective practice, case conceptualization, risk assessment, informed consent, professional development, and integration of EMDR within broader clinical and systemic frameworks. Trauma-informed andragogy is applied to supervision through safety and respect, transparency, voice and choice, collaboration, connection, social justice, and a strengths-based orientation toward growth and resilience. The eight phases of the EMDR standard protocol are reviewed to provide contextual knowledge without positioning the non-EMDR-trained supervisor as a technique expert.
