Jose

Jose Carbajal, Ph.D.is a licensed clinical social worker. He served in the U.S. Army; after his military service, Jose attended Baylor University, where he received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social work, and a master’s degree in theological studies. He completed his Ph.D. in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. Jose has several publications, and he has conducted many professional presentations and workshops. Jose’s research focus is on the interventions clinicians use to treat trauma, neuroscience and social work practice, faith, and trauma, and social disparity. Jose has over 10 years of clinical experience; his clinical specialties are trauma, sexual abuse recovery, domestic violence, substance abuse, and interpersonal relationship issues. Dr. Carbajal is an EMDR Trainer and Consultant.

Jordan

Jordan Shafer, MS, LPC is an EMDR Therapist, Trainer and Consultant. Jordan has a deep interest non-duality, as based in Advaita Vedanta – an ancient wisdom philosophy. We will be drawing from these teachings for his portion of the workshop. This year our focus will be on the teachings of Atmananda Krishna Menon, as explained and demonstrated by Author Greg Goode. During the retreat we will be introduced to looking at our experience from a very different, "non-dualistic" perspective. The thing is, we don’t need to regard the everyday sense of things as the literal truth of our experiences. Non-dual inquiry frees us from seeing our current experiences in the same old way and allows us to be more open, accepting and gentle with ourselves and others.

Tricia

Tricia Gagnon LPC-S is an EMDR Consultant and 200 RYT Yoga & Meditation Teacher. Tricia is a psychotherapist in private practice with over 20 years experience in trauma, anxiety, and codependency recovery. She applies mindfulness & yoga with clients for resource development, and to expand their window of tolerance with EMDR. Tricia also enjoys teaching clinicians how to be mindfully attuned so they can do the trauma work they love, without compassion fatigue. In workshops and retreats, Tricia incorporates the latest research regarding the effectiveness of yoga & mindfulness for recovery and healing.

Mark

Mark LoPalo is a 200RYT Yoga & Meditation teacher. Using yoga to relax the body and tame the mind, Mark helps clients in classes, workshops, and retreats to reach deeper states of mindful awareness. Mark works with private and corporate clients in equine assisted coaching and is also certified in NLP, Hypnosis & Reiki. All these different modalities allow Mark to guide people to find their own rhythm, and to experience their lives without limitations.

Intended Audience: This retreat is for all Mental Health Professionals (EMDR trained and non-EMDR trained) who want to learn about Mindfulness, EMDR and  Body Awareness and to use it with their clients in their clinical practice. Non-workshop attending partners: Partners of registered workshop attendees are encouraged to attend the retreat, as well.  They will be welcome to join in the meals, meditations and on all group activities.

Days and Times:  This is a week long workshop with arrival time beginning at 3:00 pm (dinner is 5:30 to 6:30) on Sunday, June 05, 2022, and ending on Friday, June 10th, after lunch at 1:00 pm.  See the full schedule below.

About the retreat

Comments from 2019 Retreat

• I’ve never had “mindfulness” explained so well. The information from neuroscience was invaluable. I will use it immediately in my practice.
• Was impressed with the way he explained some very difficult concepts. Arrived at the workshop thinking that I would probably not apply the principles and practices of The Presence Process, and left knowing that I must apply these practices in my life.
• The best thing I learned was that the Body Scan and BLS can help with highly dyrsegulated clients. It will help the client to learn self-regulation by coming back to the breath our and over.
• Very knowledgeable about the brain, concepts, etc. The practicum was helpful in the use of EMDR & Mindfulness.
• Mediation handouts very helpful and useful!
• This training both was a personal retreat - due to the setting & I learned current literature on mindfulness.
• Really found the concepts in the book (The Presence Process) helpful!
• The training allowed the participants to go deeper into their own work.
• Practicums and diagrams were always great! The discussions were great. Mindfulness scripts were great, too!
• This training will help enhance the EMDR practice with clients, as well as increase empathy as therapist when practiced ourselves.
• You (Jose) and Jordan have been such a great team and fun, open to many suggestions and ideas, genuine. You have so much knowledge to share. I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from you. Your positivity & joy radiate from you, inspiring me to continue with this information for myself and my clients.

Jose's Part

The premise of the adaptive information processing (AIP) model is to mindfully process information in the present while accessing traumatic information from the past. I will focus on how to access traumatic information using mindfulness strategies and EMDR techniques to increase affect tolerance and reprocess trauma. I will also present the latest research on neuroscience as it relates to mindfulness and EMDR.

Jordan's Part

Well, my experience is that Mindfulness teachings always leave me wanting more. For me, wondering how to go beyond the mind is the question. Like what is that or where is that? The teaching we'll be drawing from this year comes from Greg Goode's book, "The Direct Path." We'll do several of the exercises that clearly demonstrate that everything we experience through our senses is 'awareness' or 'consciousness' - meaning there is no 'there' out there. Being in a beautiful, quiet, serene, spacious and open setting like Ghost Ranch, gives us the opportunity to more deeply experience our 'real self' as Presence - going beyond the limited being that is 'present,' but being as Presence itself.
